Monitors are HUGELY important when it comes to editing your pics after a shoot.

I was just wondering what types of monitors any of y'all have purchased specifically for your post-processing.

You generally don't want a screen bigger than about 26" correct?

also, i know they all have diff specs like the contrast ratios.

Could someone explain that to me and how that affects the processing afterwords[IE: how it looks on the screen]

Thanks.

PS: i forgot to say what i had. mine is just budget buy, but i have a 22" gateway HD display. pretty simple. 1680x1050 res and a contrast ratio of 2000:1 [whatever that means haha]

it gets the job done I feel.

A great monitor is... well .... great, but useless without correct calibration don't forget.

I've seen some fantastic editing done that was put completely to shame due to incorrect calibration ...e.g blacks that did not match up with the editors "perception" of black on a badly calibrated monitor .. meaning you could see where all the airbrushing had been done, where backgrounds had been removed etc....

If you are serious about Digital PP something like Datacolor's "Spyder" is really a must have and should be factored into the price of any Lab.

Yeah That is true, calibration is just as important, if not more than, the monitor itself.

Luckily i was able to calibrate mine using a professors equipment.

I have a Dell 2209wa monitor that is excellent. It is an e-ips panel as opposed to the usual tn type panel which, for processing work, makes a huge difference. And the best thing about it was the price!
