How heavy do you think the average SLR is? I have a Lumix DMX FZ28 and I want a tripod for it, cheapest the better atm due to my funds and well they go by weight on what they can carry don't they ?

Don't go for a cheap tripod, you will regret it.

I had my good old trusty tripod stolen not that long ago and made the decision never to take an expensive one to a busy venue again.
So... I just received one I bought on Ebay.

I paid $65.00 AUS and for me its a beauty.

It is rated to take 8x Kilo. (Your camera should weigh aprox; 800grms or so)

I went for that one as I figured, if it could take 8x Kilo it should be strong enough to last a while. Also, cheap enough to take to "busy venues" and risk a theft.

I have tried it out, it is firm enough, tall enough and the head can be changed at any time. i.e. you can purchase separate heads to suit you.

The brand is called "FANCIER" For the price its a real goer! Check`em out on ebay they have heaps.

Check out the above link for a cheap, easy, and pocket stashable tri/bi/mono "pod". Obviously not a replacement for the "real" thing but def worth the 5 bucks and 15 min time to have something available at any time.

There only light, I`ve got one (D/C)and its only 630grms and that`s with a full Magnesium body. I also have a few old heavy vintage film cameras which weigh a fair bit.

However, as I said, for me, if the tripod can take a heavy weight like the one I bought, then it should be more robust and may not break as easy as some do. The Tripod itself is really light and inexpensive.
